DIY Beach Clean Ups

Whether you're picking up litter on your daily walk or organizing a group cleanup, here's how to get started!

  1. Get Started

You don't need to organize a big event to make an impact. Bring a bucket on your next beach walk, invite a few friends, or plan a neighborhood cleanup.

2. Bring a Few Supplies

  • A bucket or reusable bag for collecting litter

  • Durable gloves to protect your hands

  • A litter grabber for hard to reach items

3. Clean Up Safely

  • Wear gloves and watch your footing.

  • Avoid dunes, sensitive vegetation, and wildlife.

  • Never touch sharp objects, needles, or hazardous materials. Leave them alone and report them to the appropriate local authorities.

  • Leave natural materials like shells and seaweed where they are.

4. Track Your Trash

Recording what you collect helps researchers and conservation groups understand the types of litter affecting our environment.

Use the Stridy app to record the litter you collect and help track pollution. Join the ALO LBI team to contribute your cleanup efforts to our community’s impact!

5. Dispose of Litter Properly

Secure your collected trash so it can't blow away. Separate clean recyclables where appropriate, and dispose of everything according to local waste guidelines. Avoid overfilling public trash cans.

6. Share Your Impact

Cleaning up is even better together! Share a photo of your cleanup and tag ALO on Instagram so we can celebrate your efforts and inspire others to get involved.
